I completed this shoot at a local client’s office. Ironically they are my client, and these are their client waiting rooms, so I’ve never had cause to sit in either of these spaces.
These are waiting rooms in a Solicitors’ Office. As such I like the idea that the people who populate these spaces are waiting for meetings. They could be good meetings, they could be bad meetings, but either way these chairs have been vacated by people who are about to learn something, or be changed by information.
Again I had a few minutes, as reception were pleasantly but bemusedly sending their waiting clients to the room I wasn’t photographing, and I felt the pressure to get in and done as quickly as I could.
I knew that I loved the direct, frontal shot of the single chair as soon as I took it.
At our last crit Nik suggested that there was an implied conversation with the recent inhabitant of the chair, that my framing and angle put my the viewers head at the right height to interact with the absent sitter. I like this idea and intend to use it moving forward.
