Last week saw the 2022 Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards take place at the Worcester arena. I was there on behalf of the Chamber and F8 Creates to grab reportage of the event and get the official award photos on stage. While it’s always a frenetic night, it’s usually good fun too, a chance to see the business community let their hair down for a night.
Last year’s award ceremony has stuck in my memory for another reason, because that was the event at which one of my trusted Canon 5DMkIVs died.
A paragraph that includes multiple uses of the work Berk.
After a full day shooting it went into a camera bag, travelled the short distance across Worcester, and then just wouldn’t wake up. I was immediately reminded as to why I have two work bodies.
It isn’t so I can save time changing lenses, (although this is cool), or so I can look like a Berk with my double camera sling, (I look like a massive Berk). It’s so I don’t have to apologise to a client and go home when my camera breaks, leaving them without images, and me looking like… a Berk.
Reportage
The death of that MkIV spelled the end of my relationship with Canon 5D range (professionally). Having had MkIIs, MkIIIs, and MkIVs by September of last year I’d transitioned to shooting with a pair of Canon R5 bodies, and when the time came to shoot the awards this year, I was shooting the R5s with all native RF mount glass, something I could not have predicted last year.
The move has been a good one, for me, for my clients, and for my local camera shop. Everyone is happy with the uplift in performance, even if I still take too many pictures. (I also completed the series when I bought a 5d MkI for personal use earlier this year).
